"My name is Ingrid Persson and I first came to Kafountine, Senegal, from Uppsala in Sweden, in 2005. I attended a two week-long organized trip where African dance, drumlessons and Senegalese culture and tradition were on the schedule.
I instantly fell in love with the surrounding, the people in the village and the air of true kindness and happiness. I also saw that here was a lot to be done regarding improving the living conditions for the locals.
This is why I have kept returning to the village, built a home here and started up several economical projects such as raising funds for the "Girls only school" and the hospital, creating a garden in which the women of the village can grow and sell their crops, letting out my house to new tourists whose presence makes it possible for some of the locals to earn their living and started up several sponsorships for the children.
Please contact me of you want to help us in our effort to make the living a little bit easier for some of our friends, or if you are just interested in and curious about a trip to Kafountine.
"To me it's about the amazing meeting with all these kindhearted, positive and greatful people! Here I find an inner peace and harmony that I haven't found anyplace else."
"It's like another planet! Words can't describe it! You just have to go there! The people of
Kafountine are so happy! We need to go there, all of us, to become happy and to help all of these wonderful people!"
